dshiznit1 Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Im thinking I want to upgrade my sound hardware, but don't know which would be a better buy. I currently have an audigy ls and the creative t5400. I was looking at the Z-5500 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ate=pricerunner or an x-fi card (or any new card) such as this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1118841152655 Which upgrade would be a better buy for what I currently own? or is it even worth it? I don't want to spend much more than $

DarkScorpion Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Do you primarily game, or mostly listen to music?
dshiznit1 Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I would say listen to music, just because thats all I do when I do homework. However, I play a decent amount of games as well.
DarkScorpion Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Look into an M-audio revolution 5.1. It's $100 at the most, is superior to the X-Fi Music in terms of 5.1 listening and 2 channel listening when listening to music (better DAC's and opamps), and is on par with it for games, though the X-Fi has the added EAX support (but I hardly noticed the difference when I played BF2 on my friends X-Fi platinum). And that leaves 100 dollars for speakers of your choice.
silkster Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 (edited) Get the sound card first. Edited December 30, 2005 by silkster
DarkScorpion Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I've found it here: Newegg $70 shipped w/ 3 day shipping Zipzoomfly &70 shipped w/ 2day shipping And my last post may have been misleading - it DOES have EAX support, and is good for games, but the X-Fi music just may be better for games. habitual geek Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 if you prefer music and sound quality over gaming, you should look at Altec Lansing's speaker line i compared Logitech's systems to the AL systems and the AL's blow away the Logitech's in clarity

dshiznit1 Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Its funny you should mention getting a pair of headphones becuase after I made this post and saw most people said to get a sound card, I started looking for a pair of nice headphones.
