jonnoyeo111 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Hey, since my stupid 9800pro doesnt support dual link dvi, and no other AGP cards do (other than the 9600pro....) im proposing an upgrade to my parents for my christmas/bday pressie lol. Here's what i have in mind: Video Card: HIS Radeon X1800XL 256mb PCI-E video card w/2x DVI & video in/out Mobo: Gigabyte K8NF-9 Skt939 nForce4 board CPU: AMD Athlon64 3700+ 64-Bit CPU, 90nm 1mb Socket939 w/AMD fan-heatsink Now......should i get some new RAM? Or stick with the 1GB Geil i have now....i was thinking of getting a 2GB set, but then ill only be getting Geil Budget stuff......which won't OC too well......im not gunna OC too much me thinks.... Hushplz Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Well DFI and MSI get great reviews on here so maybe look at a different motherboard. Im sure someone will be able to tell you abit more. And stick with your current Ram =D
Guest FxXP Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 (edited) I am able to do 290 HTT on my K8NF-9, but bare in mind that the (Edit: VDIMM) only goes to 2.8v. You won't get very far on with Geil on that kind of voltage. Edited December 7, 2005 by FxXP
jonnoyeo111 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Would going for an Opteron 146 be a better choice? It's cheaper........but how's the performance.....oh and wat Mobo should i get? I sorta cant get the DFI UT NF4 mobo which i wanted.....cause of the 24pin power it needs, unless i get a new PSU......

UkJenT Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 What? Never by any product based on its look alone. Read reviews and find out quality of the product. Especually PSUs.

Nerm Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 If you are gonna upgrade to the system you listed (x1800xl, 3700+) then I would recommend upgrading that psu as well. You never skimp on the psu and most definatly don't buy a psu on looks.
