OptikaliLLusion Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Which one do you think is the best for me to get? I want it to be able to run BF2 on high with these other components: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Asus A8N5X 2GB Mushkin poor-man's PC3200 RAM I heard the GTO2 can be modded to X850XT settings. swifty11212 Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 yes the gto2 can do that, well its pretty much between the gs and the gto2 because the gt is no longer being made and its priced more. you should probably shoot for the gto2 and transform it to a x850xt. OptikaliLLusion Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 The only thing that turns me off from the GTO2 is no SM3.0, unless it was implemented in it.
swifty11212 Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 most games doesnt use sm3... only a few and one of them is chronicles of riddick. well id suggest getting a 7800gt if your willing to spend money on a 6800gt (they are not worth its price nowadays)
habitual geek Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 SM3.0 is definately not somethign you would want to be left without, a year ago, yeah, you could have done without it for the most part, but even Futumarks new coming 3DMark 06 will require SM3.0 for HDR rendering, an integral part and main feature of 3DMark 06, not to mention all the other games that use SM3.0 and those that are coming here is a useful thread on SM3.0, tons of info http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost....067&postcount=1 and i would go with the 6800GS option, you could buy two for right at $430 and SLI them, and according to this, two 6800GS's in SLI can beat the new 7800GTX 512 monster card http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27777 but even one 6800GS will be faster and more "future resistant" than any SM2.0 card
swifty11212 Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 although you might have a point there, it does say in some scenarios its faster. overall, it good but not good enough, just getting any 7 series card in single card setup is still good. bigred Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 okay, but isn't that an AGP board? with a GTO or 7800 series card you need what? PCI-Express... enough said on that subject
habitual geek Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 (edited) 6800GS is PCI-E only, with AGP coming soon, PCI-E is NV42 on a Series 7 PCB, AGP flavor is NV40 on a Series 6 PCB although you might have a point there, it does say in some scenarios its faster. overall, it good but not good enough, just getting any 7 series card in single card setup is still good. wait a minute........it's faster sometimes, and it's good, but not good enough........??? it's a much better value than a single gtx hands down Edited November 19, 2005 by habitual geek
