Recommended Posts

I cut out the whole side of my case yesterday and attempted to replacce it with plexi. I used the quite tite epoxy this stuff

ph81501.jpg

I let it set over night. I know it says 24 hours for full cure, but it dosn't seem to be sticking the best, I have one corner that pulled off, I'm going to have to re do it.

What do you guys use?

And eventully I'm going to have to drill a fan hole, do you think it will hold? I'll prolly use the drimel, and a drill.

here some pics of what I have so far

just a little tip for anyone thinking of using plexi glass and glueing it!!!

the surface of the plexi glass you want to glue must be slightly scuffed up with fine glass paper or emery cloth so the glue has something to grip to

the area doesn't have to be large, just enough to make the glue stick to whatever your glueing

A very inexpensive glue for plex to plex is methylene dichloride. You can get it at the plex.shop. It is a

clear watery solvent that is applied with a hypodermic bottle to close fitting joints. It is not a gap filler, but if the joints are made properly, they will be almost invisible. Some people mix it with acrylic chips to make

a sort of glue. Another trick for polishing edges of plex is to use ahydrogen oxygen torch. With some practice, you can make the edges look like you spent hours polishing them. The reason for oxy/hydrogen is that there is no carbon in the flame... the byproduct is water. Use your regular oxy/acetylene torch outfit.

But you don't need to use the torch I'm sure most don't have one or have access to one.

there is some stuff you can get that'll actually melt the surfaces of two pieces of plexi together for a very effetive bond.

i've used model glue, it works for smaller peices at least. not sure how strong it would be with larger ones.

need to pactice on your cutting but other than that it's pretty cool, have you ever thaught of using a guide when you cut? what i do is get a pice of 1/4 steel that is like 1 inch wide by 2 feet long and measure out your stuff then clamp it to your side panel and then follow the guide with your dremel... It helps if you have a wobbly hand....
