Upgrade To 775?

Question,

is it really worth it , to upgrade to LGA 775?

 

i have socket 478 right now?

 

should I wait or what?

id say wait. s478 is good because you can still buy northwoods. Also, the current 775 mobos will not take dual procs, so at least wait for 955 chipset. Also, you may even consider a switch to AMD if you have to buy a new proc and mobo anyway.

775 doesnt have much to offer that gains you anything, just ruins your mobo after 10 cpu switches.

it has been for a long time. 754 is dying. 940 is server and 462/A is long since dead.

The only place you'll see 754 "mainstream" is on retail computers. Most people who build their own computers stick with 939 since 754 has been designated the "value" socket with the Sempron line.

ah how much do typical 939 processors cost and mobos?

you can get a 3200+ with the venice core (new core that ius supposed to oc better than the winchester's) for $200 and the better OCing mobos are around 130 to 140.
