kendellrt Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 I tried to install AVG with my drive that has WinXP x64, but it failed. Do I even need to worry about viruses for this RC yet?
d3bruts1d Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Yes, there are viruses for the AMD64 and IA64 platform. Though since WindowsXP64 hasn't been released yet, I doubt you'll find anything to run on it. -- Maybe an enterprise/server AV. Kamikaze_Badger Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 The x86-64 instruction set sits ontop of the x86 instruction set... so in other words, a 32 bit virus would affect a 64 bit CPU. And if it's Windows... expect a virus in 3 days. EDIT: You're screwed... http://news.com.com/Virus+targets+64-bit+W..._3-5320803.html However, there's hope: http://www.avast.com/eng/whats_new_in_avast_v.html
Gremlin Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Yes there is a program that does run on 64 the only thing is it is expensive. Norton has it.

Now if I have said something like this Only norton has a 64 bit anti virus than yes you can quote me. If there is one good it is free and cheap. Plus when I typed my post you did not mention the web page.
