Doom 3 Settings

Can anyone actually tell the difference between high and ultra in Doom 3? I keep trying to look for reasons to run ultra settings, even though I don't see any differences and running on high w/ 4xAA and 8xAF is smooth as silk.

I can tell a tiny bit, but I don't find it big enough to justify the drop in framerates. I think it pretty much just increases the texture resolution...all the shaders appear to be the same.

I woulda thought that if you made the game brighter in the video options that it would also make it not so dark like in shadowy places, but it is still the same.....gay <_<

my guess is because no graphics card on the market today, not even your 6800GT has the capability of playing doom3 at ultra settings the way it was intended.

try hitting alt+ctrl+~ and then typing "r_gamma X" where X is a number from 0 to 3 I think....try 1.5 for example....should be much better. Lighting wise that is.

Wow that worked wonders for me! Try typing "r_gamma 1.3", this way you can enjoy the graphics of the game, not have to squint but still not ruin the atmosphere too much.
