ccokeman Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 The Hyper 212 gets a lot of good press for an inexpensive cooler. I tested the Hyper 212 Evo along with a fairly robust set of coolers with these results http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/bequiet_dark_rock_pro_2/4.htm To get a better grip on what your goals are and your system specs might give me a better grip on the recommendation. feetfats Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 I am very happy with my 212 evo. It didn't cost much money and it keeps my cpu reasonably cool with a decent overclock. If I suddenly found myself without a cpu cooler I would buy this one again. It's about $38 CAD so pretty sweet. IMO this is where it's at for air coolers, if I wanted more cooling I would go H20. SpikeSoprano Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Have to agree with above post , the 212 works great for the price.
ccokeman Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 For a very modest overclock it does ok for its price point but when push comes to shove there are better options depending on your overclocking goals and the hardware you have. Hyper Threaded Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 For the price, you can't beat the H212 Evo.

ccokeman Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 be Quiets Pure Rock will give it a run for the money within 5 bucks of the Hyper 212 Evo. You personally ( at least based on your specs) are running a 4 core CPU without hyper-threading so the thermal load your chip dumps is significantly less than what say a 3770K would dump at a similar clock speed and load. In that respect the Hyper 212 Evo is in its wheelhouse and can handle that kind of load before it is saturated and cannot dump any more heat without more airflow. That's why I put the qualifier dependent on your hardware. A question that would help drive a purchase in the right direction. Running something like your system ( Not dumping on your system BTW just pointing it out as a comparison) and he could go a couple ways but with a different chip he may be limited by the choice of his two coolers. Good question though!
El_Capitan Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 CM Hyper 212+ and Hyper 212 EVO have been tried and true for a long while now, especially for the price. I had a delidded 3570K running with a CM Hyper 212+ a long time ago, hit 4.9GHz and temps never went above 72C at load.
ccokeman Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Thats with a delidded 4 core chip and no Hyper-Threading. Add Hyper-Threading and its a whole different world. Run it on on 8 core FX chip and its a problem as well. In its wheelhouse its tough to beat but go outside its thermal limits and it gets overwhelmed. El_Capitan Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 ^ Yeah, of course it has it's limits. Not sure what the OP has.
ohldboy Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Trouble is finding a web site that does comparative testing that (still, if it ever did) lists the CM Hyper 212 EVO. It is definitely the one I would choose of those two. The review listed confirms that.
