saywhut Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Hey everyone, It's been a while since I've posted here. I am wanting to upgrade my video card pretty soon, but I am not quite sure which way to go. I have been out of date lately, and I am still rocking the HD 4890 DX 10.1!!! The one game I have been anxiously waiting for is Command and Conquer: Generals 2. I have a feeling that my video card will not pack enough juice to run the game as it will be running the Frostbite engine. My questions are: What video card would you all recommend for my setup? I was thinking of a GTX 580, or perhaps even a GTX 680. An AMD equivalent would also be fine. Also, will my processor be a bottleneck for a newer video card? Thanks in advance! Black64 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 If may be a bottleneck, you would just have to see for yourself when you install it. I think a GTX 670 or 7950 would be a good card to get for the money.
Prunes Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Just installed a 940 in a friends pc, and he has now trouble at all. It's the gtx 560 ti he's using that's holding him back. What's your budget? Screen resolution?
saywhut Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I am trying to keep this under $250 if possible, and I game at 1920 x 1200.
IVIYTH0S Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I think you'll have trouble getting a GTX680 for that budget but if you can find one for that much.....cool! HD7950 is probably the best you'll get for that much
Black64 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 The 7950's are quite powerful, I run one at 1920x1200 and it runs perfectly. In CF they dominate.
saywhut Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 $250 is a stretch for me. Anything about $200 y'all would recommend?
Black64 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 6970 or GTX
VaporX Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 The 7950 right now with recent price cuts is the BEST bang of the buck. Sapphire HD 7950 with 3 free games for $219 with free shipping and rebate for $20. Can likely get a decent overclock on it to around 1GHz if you want to and gain even more speed. saywhut Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Oh wow, that 7950 is not bad at all. Thanks everyone for your advice!
l1il Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) Huh, wasn't Bosco selling 7970's for 275 or around that? There is A HUGE gain in between 7950 and 70's in my mind, as 70's packs more shaders andoverclock really easy. Forum Thread! *Edit* Did not noticed the "250 is a stretch". 7950's are on sale on NCIX.com at around 220$ Edited September 4, 2013 by StefenHeif
