Q9550 OC Tips

My Q9550 2.83GHz has been running pretty stable at 3.74GHz for the last two years, but last night I decided I wanted to get it to around 4GHz if possible. However, I've forgotten pretty much everything I had learned about OCing. I was able to get it to boot at 4GHz and 3.8~ but it would freeze not long after reaching the OS, so I've reverted to my 3.74 for now. I've tried increasing my CPU VCore to around 1.35V with the max safe being 1.3625, lowering my RAM back down to 1600MHz, lowering RAM FSB to 333MHz and 300MHz, and slightly increasing DRAM timings, but to no avail.

 

If any one can give me some tips on what to do to help, I would greatly appreciate it. Here are my settings for my CPU (Cooled by a coolermaster V8), GA-EP45T-UD3P mobo and my 16GB Patriot Viper memory.

CPU Clock Ratio: 8X (Max)

Fine CPU Clock Ratio: +0.5

**CPU Voltage**

LLC: Disabled

CPU Vcore: 1.31250V (1.21250V Default)

CPU Termination: 1.24V (1.2V Default)

CPU PLL: 1.5V (Auto)

CPU Reference: 0.760v (Auto)

 

**MCH/ICH**

MCH Core: 1.240v (1.1V Default)

MCH Ref: 0.760V (Auto)

MCH/DRAM Ref: 0.750V (Auto)

ICH I/O: 1.63V (1.5V Default)

ICH Core: 1.4V (1.1V Default)

 

**DRAM**

DRAM Voltage: 1.68V (1.5V default)

DRAM Termination: 0.75V (Auto)

Coolermaster V8 isn't a cooler with which you can get to 4GHz mark. You will need watercooling.

I'm not a huge CM V8 fan either but my Q9450 made it to 4.0ghz with TRUE in push/pull.

 

OP, what is the bluescreen saying?? like the 0x00000###

True black is better than V8 and with push-pull setup, it is way better.

Might not be getting 4GHz then :-(

Trying not to spend any more money on this build. Trying to wait until Intel releases Haswell before I do some major upgrading.
