dr_bowtie Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 did you make exceptions in the firewall?
ir_cow Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) I turnned on my firewall a long time ago because my xbox 360 didn't like it. BTW i'm using a Netgear WNDR3300 Edit: the only thing related to firewall is Disable SPI Firewall which is checked. Nephilumos Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) Perhaps try changing the FTP port? I tried running a traceroute on your IP, but it times out once it hits Bresnan.net which is, I'm guessing, your ISP. Have you double checked your WAN IP? Because as someone said earlier, your IP ins't pingable, but that's not uncommon. It's usually a setting within your router, and your router definitely has it. I'll try a different scanning tool to see if I can at least hit your modem and post results. Could be your ISP, but might also be a setting in your router. Perhaps check to make sure that Port forwarding is enabled (Not just that the ports are listed, but that the actual port forwarding function is turned on) Also, make sure that it's not under port triggering. ir_cow Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) thanks for the advice, i will be messing with it when i get up. also Bresnan has been bought out my optimum so maybe they are in the middle of something? I honestly think it's my router but it really does not have a lot of settings to turn on or off. I'm still on 68.145.152.166 for now so my modem should be pingable still. RimX Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 yea but it could be that your isp is blocking port 21. try using a different port number. And I know my router, Linksys, has a setting to drop external pings, so that could be why pinging gives a host unreachable response
dr_bowtie Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 By any chance did you read any guides? there are some very thorough guides via Google https://www.google.com/webhp?source=search_app#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=how+to+set+up+an+FTP+in+windows+7+with+filezilla&oq=how+to+set+up+an+FTP+in+windows+7+with+filezilla&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_l=hp.3...1703.15191.0.15979.48.46.0.2.2.0.162.5557.1j45.46.0...0.0.lWk9-3diQOs&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=80f92b156a9e6a4a&biw=1541&bih=
ir_cow Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) i did, i read a few fileizilla guides before posting because usually i can figure things out on my own. Today i did some digging on my router and found "respond to internet ping" was unchecked. So i'm going to change the port and try again. edit: can someone try it now, because from what i read there is no way for me to check it externally with the same ip address as the server (so the internet tells me). ftp://68.145.152.166:125 user: test pass:test IP 68.145.152.166 Port: 125 user: test pass: test Edit: Problem Fix. What i did was turned off windows firewall (didn't even know it was on. Used "passive mode settings" and typed my external ip address. changed the port range from just 125 (alt of 25) to 124-126 (i guess filezilla likes more ports). lastly so i could test on my own ip i unchecked in passive mode "do not use external ip for local connections" sadly all the guides i read though were pretty useless. i just had to fiddle with it for a while.. dr_bowtie Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I think you have to add the exception for FTP to the firewall... I remember doing so
