2500k OC

Hi there,

I recently built a new machine, ga-z68xp-ud4 mobo/i5 2500k cpu.

I have overclocked it to 4.5ghz using these settings -

Multiplier - 45x

CPU PLL overvoltage - enabled (D2 stepping chip)

Turbo Core - Enabled, all set to 45x and the TDP TDC settings both set at 300

CPU Vcore - 3.8v *EDIT - 1.38v

All other settings are standard. With this setup, I get a max core temp of 68 degrees on a 1 hour stress test with OCCT, I have an Arctic 13 Pro cooler, bit of a compromise on performance for price and noise. Although my Vcore in BIOS is set to 3.8v CPU-Z reports a max of 1.404 - OCCT reported a minimum of 1.39v and a max of 1.42v during the stress test.

Any opinions appreciated - cheers.

If you actually did have a vcore of 3.8 you would have cooked that CPU.

1.4v is more reasonable for a 4.5GHz OC on a 2500k you could possibly even drop that a bit.

Can you take a pic of your settings in bios because there is no way vcore is 3.8v because that is well over even double the safe max for the CPU.

Oh duh sorry, I meant 1.38. Cheers.

Nice you got a Gigabyte board. You should be able to do 4.5 with less than 1.35v easy.

You can disable Overvoltage, Turbo, Power ES, all that stuff. You don't even need LLC enabled either.

Literally I set just the vcore and everything else to Auto, seems to work the best on my UD7.

On Sandybridge, Nothing has to be disabled except Turbo.
