Special_K Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 Well I got my msi board back from RMA, put some ceramique on the NB (broke a pin need a new one ) and i got a 2 gig hdd (for os and folding/server) got DVD and CDRW, my old radeon 7000, a blower, and a network card at the bottom. Now i got teh case out of a trash can (literally) its an old IBM ATX case as you can see, from about 1991 or 92 i think. This is the begining of a new project, i just need some ideas on where to take this. its not gonna be the most powerful maching but it will run well. here are the stats more organized: MSI KT4VL (onboard LAN and audio, KT400 chipset) 2 x 256 generic DDR pc2100 RAM AMD Athlon XP2100 (soon as i get it) probally the stock hsf 2.2G HDD Seagate (really old but it works) CDRW/DVD drives ATI Radeon 7000 no psu yet, need to find one (if you got an extra one over 300W let me know) btw i know its not gonna be the best pc but bear with me here, its about modding not the components Thanks all in advance
caffeinejunkie Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 Why not try to build the computer into something you wouldn't think a pc's in.People on here have built computer cases into trashcans why no try to make a trashcan into a case just an idea. I myself am working on a project for a pc in an old Atari 2600. I just tried to think of something that no one would expect a pc to be in. I can't wait to see peoples faces at a lan party when i bring an atari 2600 flip it on and bam theres a desktop lol.

Special_K Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 ok plexyglass... no this has to be cheap, i dont want to be spending any cash... at least not a lot
caffeinejunkie Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 Hmm i'll toss a few more ideas/ Maybe you could put it in an old breifcase or something like that. If your not worried about heat you culd try to cram it in a crt monitor. I think it being in the desk would be awesome myself. Just think if it were a thick real wood desk you could have a nice chunk cut out off it have the mobo/hd/psu sit in there with a nice glass panel over it it could have fans on the panel and the cd drives could be by the front of the desk. Do what i do look around your room for stuff it would fit in that would be original and sweet. Then try and cram it in there
bigred Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 old mini fridge? I'm sure you can find them at a college. or perhaps my favorite... a BBQ grille (don't ask but it was an idea my brother came up with but never tried). or perhaps a tool box, microwave or something else that you see a lot of in a college setting
Special_K Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 hm... good ideas but i couldnt find any at the trash... too bad i let that old refridgerator go
KraZy Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 Actually, plexi is not that expensive. You can pick up sheets of the stuff at your local hardware store (or gardening store, when i bought it...) I was doing some ducting mods at the time, and went through a load of the stuff. All you really need as far as tools is a drill and a scoring tool (aka sharp knife) and you are set. OMG! You let an old fridge go! I have been dreaming of a fridge mod for a while... In my job I walk by two -huge- bio-freezers (-23c!!!!) every day and just dream of what I could do. Special_K Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 Even if i could get the plexy i dont have anything to cut it with and the fridge was broken... leaked leaks = bad
kingcobweb Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 Try building it into a smallish file cabinet. Cut away the bottoms of the drawers and the back of it. To put a CD in, you open a drawer... it could work.
Special_K Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 That could work... But i decided to go with a cardboard box. Project (Fed)X-Box coming soon...
