So now I've started to tinker around with OCing and trying to get 4ghz or higher but I keep getting the BSOD or my screen just blacks out (i don't know which is worse)... My gear is: ++ Intel Core i7-930 2.80Ghz ++ Noctua NH D-14 ++ Asus Rampage II Gene ++ Patriot Gamer 6GB Kit DDR3 1600 ++ Gigabyte 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5850 ++ Seasonic X-750 Gold PSU ++ Antec 900 + Seagate 1.5TB HDD + Pioneer DVDRW ++ Logitech G110 + G35 + G9x + Razer Vespula Im abit of a noob at OCing so please be gentle. It blacks out after about 10mins. Any input guys? Did I install the noctua wrong to get those temps?not enough thermal paste? (I used the amount the instruction said which was 4-5mm diameter blob) Are any of the values wrong? If I continue raising my voltage, wont it get too hot? Any help would be so awesome! Check your specs. I have been playing with my 930 too for the last couple of weeks. I got about 85c too with 4.2. I use the H50. I am now running at 4.0 @ 1.2625v. Temps around 80c@ max load. Enable load line calibration and you will most likely need more voltage on CPU. Try 1.35V- 1.375V. Use 21x as multi. Once you find a good overclock you play around with different multi's and your memory divide and the raise memory voltage if necessary. Don't be afraid to go 85 stress testing. Normal conditions will yield mid 60's max and your golden. Here is my max stable OC. I backed it down to 4.3Ghz at 1.375V.... Here is my max stable OC. I backed it down to 4.3Ghz at 1.375V.... Nice! I'm currently stable at 4.2Ghz with 1.3625V and my temps are at around 76-78c at 100% load. Had to reconfigure a fan to feed the noctua air from the side of my casing. What are you timings Doc? 21 x 205? Im happy with leaving mine on 4.2Ghz but I was wondering, what program should I use to make sure its 100% stable? Ive used Prime95 for about 30 mins with no glitches and but when I ran Intel Burn Test on maximum, windows crashed after about 20 minutes. Any suggestions? You may need to bump the southbridge voltages a little (ICH) but for now leave them at stock settings. Disable TM (Intel Thermal Management/Monitoring) is an absolute must - otherwise the cpu and board will start throttling or kicking off once you exceed 67.9C temperature on the cpu die. Once you get a stable overclock, it's worth trying to incorporate some of the energy and heat saving features of the Intel Socket 1366 processors, such as C1E Support, Intel Speed Step and C-State Technology. Also, once you're stable you can try lowering your cpu voltage. 1.35 vcore should get you at a good starting point though. It is a wek stress test. Use the big boy tool, LinX. Doc I changed my BIOS settings to as above and it seems stable enough... Thing is, why does LinX only detect 4gb of my RAM when I actually have 6? It is a wek stress test. Use the big boy tool, LinX. I use intel burn test all the time for quick overclocking checks to see if I have a half stable system before I bump up my overclocks. I also use it when I am lowering my voltage to its minimum for my overclock to see how far I can go down and be decently stable.
