Changing LEDs in CPU fan?

Recommended Posts

So earlier today, i was considering buying some green case fans, and replacing the LEDs on my case. However, the one cpu fan i have has blue leds. I was wondering if there was any way to replace these without damaging the fan.

Anybody ever tried?

First remove the cooler from the processor and case.

You will need to dismount the fan from the bracket.

Then remove the round sticker covering the hole. Place the sticker to the side. You will reuse it later.

Use a long heavy stitching needle or something similar.

remove that little split washer. DO NOT LET THAT LITTLE THING FLY ACROSS THE ROOM! You may never find it again.

remove the fan. You should be able to see the led. Note the pos. and the neg. Should be a flat side on the led to help.

desolder the led and replace with the new led. Solder the new led in place.

Then test to make sure the led lights up. If it dose. Replace the fan.

Use a drop of light oil on the shaft.

Then slip on the split ring.

replace the sticker.

Remount the fan to the bracket.

And I believe you know the rest.

I hope this helps you out.
