Noctua NH-D14

Yay! I got my Noctua NH-D14 today. Am about to install it, but noticed that the bottom of the heatsink has small fingerprint-like ridges. Is that by design, or should I lap it?

mine had a mirror finish on it...not even a scratch...perfect shine...out of the box even...

 

if you can feel them lap it...

I don't own one yet but everything I've read suggests those ridges are by design. They're even mentioned in the NH-D14 FAQ on Noctua's website.

do you mean the bottom of the heatsink? or the part where it actually contacts your CPU?

Even with them mine is still the best heatsink I have in the stable

as I recall mine was mirror also my only prob with the heat sink was the middle fan losing a blade with in 3 months of owner ship but havent noticed much of a temp drop with only one fan

I kept it as is, and the temps are just freaking awesome!
