5770 and WoW

BKen

Recommended Posts

The CPU loading just started happening, but the GPU has been loading up to 100% with just Firefox, or WoW running, whereas other games work fine.

I have had no addons installed at all, never have on this comp, and I definitely agree that something other than WoW is wrong now.

No, the gpu or the cpu are not overtemping, even though the gpu is downclocking itself when in windows sometimes, but is usually running at the stock 1200 mhz memory, 850 mhz core settings.

I'll try getting new mobo drivers, thanks.

No virus protection is running.

Ihaven't tried a DirectX reinstall, but don't the ATi drivers reinstall DX11 when I reinstall them?

No spare GFX cards are laying around, sadly.

And, I'm using the bios that came stock with the mobo, which I would assume isn't abeta version.

EDIT: Running F6 Bios

EDIT2: Found drivers, I'm dumb =P

Sorry for the long image.

Any ideas as to why System is taking up so much CPU randomly? When I first boot it's fine, but after say 10 or 15 minutes, Windows gets choppy and everything begins to lag. Also, when this was taken, 50% of GPU power was being taken up as well according to Catalyst Control Center, with no explanation

Did you happen to do that tcpack registry fix to improve your ping times?

I'm testing out a theory of mine that maybe that has something to do with it. Maybe the network card is overworking and taking up all the bandwidth to the CPU thus when combat starts, there's no room left for video graphics.

It's just a theory right now. I removed my fix last night and stepped into an AV. We got to Vann with about 20 of us there and I didn't see a slow down. I couldn't find a 25man raid last night to really test it out tho.

Disable Steam auto start and Stardock Impulse auto start and re-run task manager and hijackthis.

Those are the only two running/start up processes that are really above what windows + drivers need to run your machine. Bet you'll find that it's one or the other........

If that fails to do the trick, boot Windows into safe mode (F8) key at boot, and re-run task manager and hijackthis so we can compare cpu and memory load under all conditions.

Again - my bet is that it has something to do with Stardock or Steam.

p.s. one last thing I saw - msi afterburner being used with XFX video card. Whats the story with that?

I used MSI Afterburner, as CCC wouldn't stop throttling the GPU, and I didn't know what program to use. It seems to throttle it less since using Afterburner. Bad idea?

I only have my wireless card's drivers installed, but that may be a problem, I'll see about disabling it.

One thing I've noticed is that it runs very fast in safe mode. It takes a bit for the CTRL-ALT-DEL screen to load and go back to Windows when booted normally, in safe mode it flies by.

Sorry for the big post, but I'm pretty sure something is wrong with my GFX card now. I ran FutureMark Vantage and in the first test, got between 0-3 FPS, and the test with the space battle, I got mainly between 1-4 FPS, with a few jumps to 7-9 FPS when nothing was going on.

did you reformat yet?

you are wasting your time with this virus crap.

and do not install anything other than CCC until you are sure there are no problems there.

and may i ask what you were planning to RMA? your board, GPU or memory?

your GPU may in fact be bad, not sure if that would cause your CPU to run at full load on your desktop like you have been experiencing.

I notice in safe mode that you've reclaimed all of your cpu cycles so that is a good thing. If it were my rig I would;

Reformat and reinstall Windows

Do not reinstall Stardock or MSI afterburner until you've done some trouble shooting

I haven't played with the CAT 10 series yet but everything from 9.8 to 9.12 have ran fine for me in multiple XP, Vista and Win 7 builds

You shouldn't be concerned with CCC throttling your GPU - it's designed to do that and I guarantee that when you need the horsepower that the drivers will kick in to 3D and the higher clocks

Again, this is just what I would do if it were my rig.........
