underclocked Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 ok so ive been researching how to overclock all my stuff and the one thing that seems to be the biggest problen is this first gen. phenom. everyone that i ask or every forum post ive read says it cant stabily be done. does anyone have an idea wut i can do with this expensive paperweight
insan3 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 (edited) every chip is different so u wont know unless u try to do it. Edited December 18, 2009 by insan3
Sihastru Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 You should be able to reach at least 2.8 (maybe 3.0-ish) which doesn't sound like much, but it will make a huge difference.
actionstan Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 ok so ive been researching how to overclock all my stuff and the one thing that seems to be the biggest problen is this first gen. phenom. everyone that i ask or every forum post ive read says it cant stabily be done. does anyone have an idea wut i can do with this expensive paperweight isnt this the phenom with the one bug phenoms had, could that be why he isnt able to overclock it? i was under the understand that it would be the "9650" that didnt have the phenom bug
Paradax Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Yah if you have the 9600 don't expect to get too much out of it because as actionstan stated it had a TLB bug.i Iwas able to get mine to 2.7 after a LOT of tweaking i even tried pushing the voltages really high and could never get past the 2.7 mark. Also like insan3 said every chip is different but if you want the settings im using just PM me and i can get them to you it might take me a day or two though. Sihastru Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Just post them here Paradax, there might be other people interested.
Baulten Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 9600s aren't going to do much. They had the TLB bug on top of just being very, very poor clockers that used a lot of power. You'll hit 2.6-2.8 if you are very lucky. Really glad I didn't buy one back when I was considering it... that would've been an "Oops!" Paradax Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I think its running at 13*208mhz @ 1.325 -1.35 v with ACC(Advanced Clock Calibration) around +4 - +6% per core. Try to keep the NB and HT clocks close to stock until you max out your clock speed then try bumping them up. You can also try dropping your clock speed a bit from your max clock and running the HT higher cause mine actually runs a little bit faster on benchmarks like this. Sorry i'm reorganizing right now and everything is piled in front of my desk so i cant turn it on and double check but from what i remember those were my final settings. i tried pushing the voltage all the way up to 1.4v still noting better. underclocked Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 and yes everybody i screwed up... i didnt research and now all i can do is try to get as lil as i can... on the plus side i got the 9600 and the ga770-ud3 for $130 on sale about 8 months ago not to bad... by the way paradax i know it suks to move stuff but if you could in any way check those settings i would appeciate it... ill be stuck without a computer for quiet a while if i fry it then no css or l4d2 =( not good lol
underclocked Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 can i use the cpu-z program for this?
Paradax Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 yes you need a copy of cpuz (to confirm your current settings), OCCT (for stability testing), and possibly prime95/memtest(for stability testing). im almost certain on the settings but still havent had the chance to check yet. And your MB probably doesn't have ACC i think only the 785g, 790x/gx/fx series northbridge has ACC What you need to do in order to not fry your chip is: find the multiplier in your BIOS and bump it up one step (.5) at a time until your computer will no longer boot into windows ( hopefully it will still POST but not boot to windows, if it goes from booting to windows fine directly to not posting then you will have to clear your cmos) Drop the multi down one step to where it still boots into windows then run OCCT 1hr test to check for preliminary stability if it passes, Great! otherwise keep dropping the multi down until it does Find the FSB/Reference clock in your BIOS it should be set to 200. repeat steps 1 and 2 with FSB instead of multi (you can up the fsb by about 2-5mhz each time) Bump the core voltage up one step at a time (NEVER go past 1.4v with this chip, it would probably be fine up to 1.425 but to be on the safe side dont go past 1.4) and see if the multi/FSB will go higher until your desired clock speed is obtained After you have found a clock speed that you are satisfied with run occt for at least a 4hr test as well as prime95/memtest if you need any help feel free to pm me
