What sort of system were you looking to build. Gaming Pc, Video Editing, general use ? What is your price range.?

man this build needs so guidance!!

Step 1: Do not invest in a socket 775 platform

Step 2: Decide whether you can afford an i5, and if not build a Phenom II machine :thumbs-up:

Step 3: Get a card other than the 9800GTX+

an i5 is only 10 more bucks on newegg and for 15 more you can get a 1gb 5750 that supports dx 11 on newegg

i would think those upgrades would be worth the 25 extra in my opinion

Yes I do need help, I am new at this! :)

I am looking to build a gaming PC. Sounds like good suggestions on the i5 and 1gb 5750.

Also it was mentioned not to invest in a 775 socket. Could that be briefly explained and an alternative suggested?

Finally I was thinking that a 9800GTX+ was a pretty top of the line card? Am I wrong?

Thanks!

The 9800GTX+ (or the GTS 250 as it is known now) is more mainstream graphics now.

I'd recommend an AMD Phenom II build if an i5 is going to get you a measly 5750, no sense in having a gaming pc with a strong processor and weak graphics. The Phenom II's are VERY good for the money and will allow you to get a much better video card (5770, 275, 5850, 4870x2)

i agree with IVI , tell us what is your budget and we will recommend the best for ya and btw top phenom iis can keep up with 1366 platform and compete with 1156 especially the i5 750 , 860 performs better because of the hyper threading ..

phenom iis are not weak though they squash 775 like a bug ..

WELCOME TO OCC..................:)

I am looking to build a PC primarily for gaming and I want to stay under $2000. My main goal is to have a machine that can handle any game for at least the next couple of years and play them at a high level!!

$2000 and you have a 9800GTX+?!

is that Samsung 1920x1200??

definitely go for an i7 920 build, search all over for a 5870 or two
