flareback Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Just wondering what people here use to write code in and what is recommended. I prefer free though if it is not too expensive (< $20 or $30) I might buy it. I like basic editors (notepad and vi) but syntax highlighting is a must. I'll be doing php and html mostly. This is going to be for a windows machine.

Verran Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Yup, Notepad++ or Textpad for languages like that.

CheeseMan42 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Notepad++ is good for Windows. I typically use emacs, but I'm not sure if it is available for Windows.
ClayMeow Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I use Dreamweaver, but it's not free. It does the syntax highlighting, auto-completion and drop-downs, plus one of the new things they added in CS4 that I really find useful is that it'll list all "includes" in tabs so you can easily switch to them on the fly.
