I would recommend getting Radeon HD5870.

+1,

bad sadly you i think it will be tight in the scout case ..5850 is very very good too and it will fit perfectly

unless you can go with 5870 and get the sniper or antec 1200 or cm cosmos s , or HAF 922/932

+1 5850, closer to 4890, better than it or any Nvidia single cores!!

Why CM for PSU, Corsair would seem better, though CM isn't bad!!

DVD-RW get an optiarc, its good and cheap!

As for the RAM.. Go GSkill, OCZ or Mushkin, lower latencies.. CL6 probably (Why do people choose Corsair? I find it very costly, though it has a great heatspreader..)

Maybe you should have a look at more mobos, though urs is pretty good!!

o and btw do u think a 5870 will fit in a thermltake v9????

coz its cheaper than the haf 922. and im jus trying to make compromises in order to stay around the $1800-1900 range hehe... coz tax is an extra $200 :(

is there any particular reason the 5850 is clocked at 750, 1000???

and is spending $200 more for the 5850 really worth it? mainly because il never use 3 monitors for gaming. i may use 2 but thats for study etc.

surely the 2GB 4890 will hold out for 3yrs atleast??

o btw for the ram im considering the Gskill ripjaw 4gb kit 8-8-8-21 at 1333

Hi Ph4n!

First of all, welcome to OCC! ^_^

Are you located in NZ? (you say NZD)

Which shop are you intending to buy the parts from?

What do you think of this quote?

(I know it's over your budget, but I think you might have a hard time keeping within your budget).

Also, do you require an operating system?

I'd also say that the modular Corsair HX620 (620W) would be a better choice, it's cheaper and solid too.

Thanks,

You would getter better performance with 5850 + i5 rather than i7 + 4890 as far as gaming is concerned!

RAM is good but I'd like to see a comparison of the prices of the CL9s/CL8s before I recommend..

A CM 690 would accommodate a 5870, thermaltake v9 would take some research, though it shouldn't be a problem!

Plz link me to some NZ stores you'd like to buy from so that I could suggest better!

BTW you can edit your posts instead of posting so many at a go!

Welcome to OCC!! (Though it's a little late for it :) )

I was also going to suggest to downgrade the CPU to either an i5 or Phenom II, and with the money saved, get a 58xx.

Edit: I think the only main reason to get s1366 now is to have the possibility to upgrade to Gulftown (6-core) when it comes out. If not I would grab s1156 instead. You could also get a very cheap Athlon II X4 for now, and later upgrade to AMD's 6-core which will also be a drop-in upgrade for your socket AM3 mobo.

Edit2: let me make a draft.

Subtotal: $812. Put the remaining towards the graphics card. In 2010, upgrade your CPU to the 6-cores when they come out.
