N.E.A Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 I'd say it's better to go with new technology. What monitor/resolution will you be using? +
ekiM Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Although that build's better than your original, you're missing RAM, and seem pretty determined to go with socket 1336, which is foolish of a student on a budget. Rather, go with an 860. If you're determined to stick with 1336, throw this in the cart
Ph4n Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 (edited) the reason for me picking the i7 920 is because for me it is cheaper than the 860 and it should prevent me buying a new mobo when the 6core processors come out, which apparently run on lga1366.... besides its only going to be like a $100 more... id rather spend a bit more now and save later.. Â my dad said he would help me out a little so yea... o i already chose a ram but forgt to write it, its the OCZ Reaper HPC 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3-1800 Triple Channel CL8 Â il probably be using a 21inch screen.. not really sure wat the resolution is :S Edited October 8, 2009 by Ph4n
nns Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) It all seems good.. but if you can't afford it, then i5 could be a viable option without reducing the performance significantly OR you could buy a cheaper RAM... Â Anyways.. I'd suggest a 750W PSU if you are looking to CF.. That is, if you can cram that into your budget.. Â EDIT: 5850 is good!! Maybe you could CF it when you need better performance and it gets way cheaper with GT300 coming up! Ph4n Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 o yea thanx, that made me look into the i7 860 which is very similar to the 920 and cheaper.... going for the 860 allows me enough cash to get the 5870 so thats great lol... Ph4n Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) um...  cpu : $539  mobo: $379  ram: $179  hdd: $136  psu: $160  graphics: $739..... considering switching to x58 platform and getting the 5850 then eventually getting CF so yea, performace doesnt seem to take to much of a hit, idk, advice please  case: $200  TOTAL: $2300 NZD    x58 option is:  cpu: i7 920 $509  mobo: Gigabyte x58 UD3R $329  ram: OCZ platinum 3gb 1600mhz cl7 $139  HDD: 1tb segate baracuda $136  graphics: HIS 5850 $549  psu: antec earthwatts 750w $230  case: CM storm scout $160  disk drive: liteon ihos BD drive $150  TOTAL: $2200 NZD Edited October 20, 2009 by Ph4n
nns Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) By all means the X58 platform is better since you are getting it at a lesser price!!  The common stuff: HDD: $136 PSU: $230 Case: $160 ODD: $150  Total = $676  The platform specific stuff:(p55/x58)  CPU: 539/509 Mobo: 379/329 RAM: 179 (2x2gb) / 139(3x1gb)  Total: P55 = $1097 and X58 = $977  GPU:  5850: 549 5870: 739  So the Totals are  P55 + 5870 = 2512 P55 + 5850 = 2322 x58 + 5870 = 2392 X58 + 5850 = 2192  I'd say go X58+5870!! And do you need a BD reader? Go for a simple DVDRW and save some bucks! Edited October 20, 2009 by nns
Ph4n Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 5870 seems a bit overkill personally.. the difference seems minimal... OCing a bit achieves same thing lol (close anyway) but hopefully after christmas price goes down
Ph4n Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 if u had to make a compromise between motherboard and GPU, which would u pick? in this case mobo: asus rampage ii gene vs gpu: hd5870
nns Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I'd pick the GPU here.. Rampage II Gene has cheaper yet good alternatives and remember its mATX!!
