Waco Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 i picked up my LSI for $150 on ebay new, check it out, raid-5 runs like a charm at 900mb/s peak. I'm assuming you are talking burst rates...no way would 3 normal 750 GB drives get even close to a third of that sustained.
ir_cow Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) yeah, for sustained it's 150-300mb/s depending on the file. since i work with movie files i set the block size to 1mb which helps alot in moving large files. romeo55 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Yeah I ran Raid 5 for awhile on my 680i and it was noticeably slower... and while I have had drives die on me I always back up my stuff anyways. So I said the heck with it and made a RAID-0 instead.
