paulktreg Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 (edited) Good quality parts that will make a nice PC. Should overclock nicely too! If we knew the main use of the new build, what the monitor resolution is and how much you have to spend, someone may suggest better alternatives. Cheers Paul Edited July 26, 2009 by paulktreg
MJCRO Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Looks like a great combo, should last him for a while.

My son plays far cry 2 on his old PC and it starts to freeze up after about 20 mins. I think his card is a Nvidia 7600 I believe. He still has a CRT monitor but will upgrade to a 20" LCD in the near future. The PC is about 10 yrs old. We need an upgraded PC anyways, so I figured this new PC would be a good start. MrAlex Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I'd suggest this CPU as it performs the same as the C2D you've selected: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103680 Chance of unlocking other 2 cores as well. DDR2 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813136057

DDR2 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813136057 Yes those choices are very good choices. I didn't see much of a difference in performance. The prices are dramatically different, but now I'm changing CPU's and I've heard so many good things about Intel cpu's. Could you please tell me a little more about these products besides the great price. Can I overclock the AMD? What the does the black edition mean? Is it overclocked already? Doesn't the Intel consume less power, 65W?

kingdingeling Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Yea, the AM2+ motherboards will accept AM3 CPUs, in fact that's what I'm building right now (Phenom II X2 550 + DFI Lanparty JR 790GX-M2RS). It's your choice really, whichever is cheaper is the way I'd go!

Thanks for the help Or this Gigabyte MB which is $30 cheaper but still very high quality. I would trust Gigabyte motherboards with my life Edited July 26, 2009 by ShallowBay
