r3d c0m3t Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Yes, we're going through this, again. Even though I have "4870 CF" listed in my signature, I never really made that decision as far as 100% goes, since I'm still a DX9 user, I was wondering whether I'd be better off going with the 9800 GX2 (my original option) or the aforementioned 4870's. If I leave the decision to myself, I'd never make a decision. The GX2 would save me a considerable amount of space, and I'd still have the benefit of two GPU's, and it's cheaper, well the Recertified is. The 4870 is well....a 4870. I've been torn between the two (four?) since the beginning...

I've been torn between the two (four?) since the beginning... do you mean instead of the CF setup? because if not, the GX2 is a little longer, and since it's boxed off it takes up alot more space than the 4870. I had one. You should consider the xfx 260 black edition too that's a really terrifyingly powerful single card for the money or if you want ati you could get the 4850x2. The possibilities are endless! (which really just made this harder on you, sorry.) Just wanted to give you some good alternatives U could always get the GX2 for folding ya if you decide to get the GX2 you should fold with it Edited November 11, 2008 by IVIYTH0S
r3d c0m3t Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Well, the 4850 X2 isn't really an option as it's price range is incredibly, and I'll just say it, stupid. As I've said in the "Is there a 4850 X2?" thread, assuming I would go with the 4850 X2, I'd be better off saving an additional $100 and going with the 4870 X2. Fogel Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Find your post a bit confusing as I'm not entirely sure which card(s) you currently own. Sounds like you have the 4870 but you're questioning your decision on that card now, that correct? I'm still on DX9 and I'm using a 260 (216 cores) and love performance gain from it. Assuming you have the 4870, stick with the 4870 as I really don't see how you would be better off purchasing a 9800 GX2. The 4870 is a better card - DX9 or DX10. Screw Vista and screw DX10 - don't worry about that junk if you're a DX9 user. If you have neither the 9800GX2 or the 4870, than I'd go with the 4870 or a 260/216. Queenz Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 If I were you I'd get the recertified 9800GX2 at Newegg for $219 or get the XFX GTX260 Black Edition CCokeman reviewed on here.
Fogel Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Only card I have right now is the 1900 XTX. Then I'd go by how much you want to spend rather than worrying about DX9/10.
r3d c0m3t Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Then I'd go by how much you want to spend rather than worrying about DX9/10. I'm not worried about DX9, 10, 10.1, or 11 and I've had the XTX since it was released, followed by the 3870 (which is no longer with me) and as good as the XTX is/was, it's definitely showing it's age. At some point I was considering the 8800GTX simply because it was so ridiculously cheap, but price isn't much of an issue as I have plenty saved specifically for the build, but I'm wiser than I used to be when I started out, which is why the GX2 was a prime option being I'm aware of it's performance, and it's $219. IVIYTH0S Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 as long as the GX2 is well cared for driver-wise. I'd still recommend the black edition 260 that is THE best card for the money (and almost in general)
