iKillSteal Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) I'll bite as soon as you confirm if you want the total cost of the rig(including keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc) or just the meaty bits(mobo, cpu, ram, hd, vid, psu, and case). Well heck, I think I'll just post both figures. 7244 before my RAM increase(didn't do much for performance). Ram was a freebie but I'll factor in the street price What I paid, at the time, for the parts I have. CPU - $55 MOBO - $30(bundle with CPU) RAM - $12 + $15(Same stick different deals) VC - $165(technically a gift from my folks but I'll add it in anyway) X-FI Xtreme Music - $55(Again, a freebie but price is going by ebay NIB) HD - $25 PSU - $70(gogo MIR!) CASE - $22 MONITOR - $220(Samsung 216BW ) KEYBOARD - $5 MOUSE - $40 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total w/ Accessories: ~$714 3DMark per $: 10.15 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total w/o Accessories: ~$449 3DMark per $: 16.13 Now if I had a motherboard that could OC worth a damn I could easily hit 2.8GHz on this E2140 on top of pushing my 9600GT a bit father(760/1900/1100 stable but the temps creep up quite a bit) which should put me right around the 12k 3DMark06 score are. That would give me 16.81 including accessories and 26.73 without. Maybe this Christmas will bring new life into my rig... slick2500 Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Well considering the fact that certain items do not affect your 3dmark06 score ie case hard drive dvd/cd burner and such I don't think they should be included in the price. So here it goes. Note I bought a lot of these items when they first came out last year. eVga 8800 GTS G92 512MB $314.99 Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L $92.99 Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 $74.99 4GB OCZ Reaper HPC $108.99 2GB OCZ Reaper HPC $90.99 Total cost $682.95 That makes my 3DMark06 ppd 17.81 How did you get 11k in 3DMark06 I only get 12k the 1Ghz in cpu speed couldn't have made that much of a difference. What OS were you using? @iKillSteal you could easily hit 3.2Ghz with the right mobo. I was able to do it on air. Turophiliac Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 ASUS P5N72-T Premium LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i - $249.99 Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz - $164.99 EVGA GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB DDR3 - $155.99 OCZ GameXStream 700W Power Supply - $114.99 G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) Pi Series DDR2 1066MHz - $104.99 Western Digital Caviar 320GB 7200rpm - $84.99 Tuniq Tower 120mm - $49.99 I Guess the Case kinda matters in cooling, so i'll add it. Thermaltake Armor Series VA8003BWS - $144.99 Total Price: $1070.92 3DMark06 Score: 13461 12.57 Points per dollar lol! Minus the Case I get 14.54 Points per dollar, which i prefer! I like the idea of points per dollar btw, it was actually really interesting to say the least.

True, but that opens the door to complications and variability. Also, as someone else said, your case does have an impact on airflow. I'd like to point out that better power supplies tend to yield better overclocking results due to the cleaner power they supply. I'm under the impression that I could get a few more mhz out of my cpu if I had a "good" psu.
Guest wump Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) How did you get 11k in 3DMark06 I only get 12k the 1Ghz in cpu speed couldn't have made that much of a difference. What OS were you using? I was using XP 64. The CPU score didn't matter for anything (I think it was <5000). My GPU excelled, though. I got excellent SM2.0/3.0 numbers though I don't remember what they were. When I get home I'm going to upload a 3dmark06 screenshot. A peculiarity I noticed: I had my video card's bios set to 650/800 (that is, stock). From there I overclocked in software to 710/1005. This yielded score A in 3dmark06. Then I flashed my video card bios with the 1.1v voltmod, and set the above overclocks to "default" in the bios. This yielded score B in 3dmark06. Score B > Score A. (by about 300).
