At the moment,Tri-sli is useless,read this review The difference between a GTX 280 and 9800GX2 is at high res. Low res 9800GX2 would have the advantage, but you wont notice the difference, is like 70fps and 60 fps, the game will still run smoothly. But at high res, GTX280 would have the advantage. In general, common users seldom exceed 1680x1050 res, so a single GTX260 would be sufficient. In your case, you might need SLI/CF since you would be running a 26' monitor.
