stueck9356 Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Is there anything out there that will help WMC read .avi files correctly? I used FFDShow, and it worked, but the video was very choppy at any reasonable resolution. I know for a fact that the files are not bad because I watched them in VLC and they looked nice, but anything larger than the little thumbnail in WMC and the video starts to 'stutter'. Anybody know of a lightweight codec package that can help me do this? side note, sound is fine and doesn't match the stutters. also when I uninstall FFDShow, I get a 'WMC can not play this file. The required codec's are not installed' error.
Andrewr05 Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 What type of .avi files? i.e. what codec? Xvid Divx etc. Open the file up in VLC media player, go to view, then stream an media info, then click on advanced info. Try installing the latest stand alone codec for that file... d4w50n Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 I get the same problem, WMP seems to "lag" with AVI files and sends the CPU usage up through the roof, yet VLC handles them fine. I have fully updated codecs, and drivers. Just putting it down to a badly made media player lol.
Andrewr05 Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Well, it is called Windows Media Player... Not every program is designed to be a 100% end all universal player. Even VLC is not perfect.
