Which Dual Memory?

Recommended Posts

Gonna buy some 2*256 dual ram for my Asus A7N8X on Barton2500+, what's the best from this list?

I shopped around some more and here's what I can find for around the same price, tell me which one's the best:

1. CORSAIR TWIN-X Dual Channel Kit Platinum Edition PC3200

Model: TWINX512-3200C2PT

2. CORSAIR TWIN-X Dual Channel Kit PC3200 512MB

Model: TWINX512-3200C2

3. KINGSTON HyperX Dual Kit PC3200 512MB

Model: KHX3200K2/512 or KHX3200AK2/512 (luck of the draw)

4. KINGSTON HyperX Dual Kit PC3000 512MB DDR Ram

Model: KHX3000K2/512 (definately KHX3000K2/512)

5. OCZ Dual Channel Series PC2700 EL 512MB with Copper Heat Spreader

Model: OCZ333512ELDC-K

6. GEIL ULTRA DUAL CHANNEL 2X256MB PC3200 DDR 2-6-3-3 1T

Part #: GL5123200DC

7. GEIL GOLDEN DRAGON DUAL CHANNEL PC3200 DDR 2-6-3-3 1T

Part #: GD3200-512DC

8. OCZ Dual Channel Series PC3200 EL 512MB with Copper Heat Spreader

Model: OCZ400512ELDC-K ($20 more than others)

Please suggest from the list above. These are the ones (apart from the last) that I can afford. I am looking for PC3200, but since some PC2700 or PC3000 seem to OC even better I added them also.

I would either go with the corsair 3200 or the kingston hyper X 3200. The kingston is usually a bit cheaper by a few dollars and performs just as well as the corsair. But both are good choices.

What about HyperX PC3000? It's for sure bh-5, but the HyperX PC3200 "could be" ch-5 since the new batches are not that good!

Try to get the BH-5 chips if you can. Not to crazy about the C2 series of corsairs as compared to the LL's. Out of your list- I would get #8 OCZ's. Look into Mushkin Level 2 3200's they use BH-5 chips and can overclock very well. www.mushkin.com-but might be out of your price range but then again might not- Sometimes newegg.com has sales on mushkins. The 3500DDR's are now considered the top of it class along with OCZ EL DDR Platinum series. As for Geils check out this review:

Go with either Mushkin 3500 Level II or the OCZ 3500 Platinum Limited Edition in a 2 x 512 configuration. They both have the BH-5 chips, tight settings and kick some major hind end. Check out some of the other sites and remember, you get what you pay for.

nah Kingston PC3000 hasnt' been bh-5's for a long while.

U know why they didn't put the Mushkin Level II in that review (it beats the OCZ |  )

Or maybe because they were testing PC4000 modules and not PC3500...

If you want to run a high FSB with a divider get the OCZ Copper. If you want to run a lower FSB with 1:1 and tight timings go with the already mentioned Mushkin lvl 2 or OCZ Platinum EL.

The list is down to these in order of price (cheapest to most expensive) :

1. OCZ Dual Channel Series PC3200 EL (Copper) 2-2-3-6

2. Kingston HyperX PC3200 2-2-2-6

3. CORSAIR TWIN-X PC3200 (TWINX512-3200C2) 2-3-3-6

4. OCZ Dual Channel Platinum PC3200 2-2-3-5

5. CORSAIR TWIN-X PC3200 Low Latency (TWINX512-3200LL) 2-3-2-6

The difference between cheapest and most expensive is around 60$. I am on a tight budget and wanna get something that can be at tightest timings at around 210 MHz without voltage mod.

Is there "REALLY" a big difference between these? Is there a difference between OCZ Copper Enhanced Latency and Platinum? What about CORSAIR low-latency and the regular one? The timing difference between them is quite negligible. Do they all use bh-5?

Thnx a lot guys! :P
