excellent post buddtx!!! very well said on all points, I have to ask you though, wouldn't plasmas be bad for watching sports? with the static images that are shown during baseball and football games at the top and bottom of the screen?

I've narrowed things down to the following 3 TV's

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panasonic-5...roductDetail.do

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-Bravia...roductDetail.do

I spent 20 minutes watching these 3 tv's, the LCD's had a pretty good picture, colors needed to be fine tuned. The plasma was obviously a tad brighter color wise, the blacks were better with the plasma, but I will be gaming a lot on this tv (PS2 now, hopefully PC in a couple of years when a video card can handle a screen that big)

I know there are newer models out there, but i should be able to get a nice discount, plus i have $400 in gift cards at CC

In regards to watching Sports or playing Games on Plasmas, burn in or image retention isnt really an issue any more. Sharp Panels tend to have a lot of issues with Banding and so on, check out the AVS forum you will find the problems. The Sony XBR does have issues with clouding. If you take the time to break in the TV a plasma can be a great television.

In all reality though its your money and your TV, all TVs have their own little problems, so go with the TV that you feel has the best picture.

Also unless you plan on purchasing a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player anytime soon you really dont need 1080p. And even then 720p is just fine for viewing HD content.
