mwaddoups Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 My current system specs are: AMD 3500+ w/Freezer 64 X800 GTO 1GB Nanya (generic) RAM Crappy mATX motherboard (Foxconn CK804K8MA-KS) I am looking at one of two upgrade options. The cheaper option is to get a DFI Ultra-D and stick with my current setup, and get a Opteron 165 eventually to overclock and some more RAM. (~£150 eventually) My other option is to get a E4300, a Biostar T-force 945pt motherboard and 1GB DDR2 RAM and have a much bigger upgrade. (~£220) What would you say is the better choice? radodrill Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 This thread should be in the recommendations & hot deals section. Also please post a sig as per forum rules. Currently the C2D is the best CPU available. The DFI Infinity 975X/G may be a better MB than the Biostar.

mwaddoups Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I got a sig now anyway. The DFI infinity would probably be better, but the biostar overclocks well and most of all is CHEAP - do you think I would see a huge performance decrease with the opteron combo, particularly with the added RAM. CPDMF Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Sigs are no longer required. No need to police them anymore.. The E4300 will smoke the opty, I have no personal experience with the Tforce 945 so I can't help you there. With the 9 X multi of the E4300 there is no need for a board that runs incredible FSB though..
Fenix-Dark Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 If you'll be getting a new set of ram regardless of the cpu you choose, I'd go for the C2D one since you'll have an upgrade path, if you choose to do so in the future. If you aren't going to upgrade the ram, I'd go for the opteron 165.
