Moulinex Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Hi all, I'm running now with : Athlon 64 3700+ @2800mhz 2x512Mb of Geil pc3200 ultra-x Dfi lanparty nf3 ultra-d bios 711 Overclocking is done with devider 213memory/257HTT and decide to buy 2 x 512 mb geil pc3200 more to put the system at 2gb of ram But the trouble is that the system with 4 x 512 mb, is not running correctly there's crash during boot, even when the system is not overclocked or the ram is running at ddr333. Ive try all but always the system is unstable Other thing, system freeze when i put 2T command rate Could you help me to solve this problem? I think my san Diego is E4 revision. This trouble could come of the processor?or nforce3 controller? one time more, it seem that ther is a diffrence between the two kit of geil , one is TCCD and the other is Winbond bh5. But anyway i think it could not come from that, i think it probably come from the san diego who don't like 4 x512 mb of ram... Could you help me ? please? watsonte Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Because the two use very different chips, it is highly unlikely the two will work together... And please follow the rules and create a signature...
Moulinex Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 (Done for the signature) But the trouble is that even running at normal speed, system run unsteable... If you read at this page http://www.geilusa.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=72 you will see there is two different memory for the same product. ther is "UP" and "DC", one is BH-5 and the other TCCD. When not overclocked, it should work. I have heard that it could have a problem with some Athlon 64 revision and 4 x 512 mb?
OldGuy Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Mixing BH-5 and TCCD and the NF3 UD you are just plain asking for instability... I've mixed brands/kits of TCCD on my NF4 UD with good results but you're talking two different animals here. Do yourself a favor and return whichever kit you just bought and stick with 2X512 -or- get a set that matches what you already have. I never tried 4X512 on my NF3 but I can't imagine it would be any fun even with 2 matched sets. I'm sure it would work but with a minimal OC.... EDIT: and just for the hale of it, did you set the ram to 2T before attempting to boot with all four sticks in?
Moulinex Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Yes i set 2T before, 1T doesn't work with 4 sticks I will try 2x512 mb but one TCCD and one BH-5, we will see further
adreno Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Moulinex, I can tell you from my own experience you will have big problems getting stability with 4X512Mb, and mixed memory. The only way I ever got this to work on this board, was with 4 matched pairs of the same memory, and even then, depending on what bank a particular stick was in would sometimes throw things off. Over clocking in this configuration, was well interesting to say the least... If you press on see this entry in the OCDB which may help. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...99&postcount=60 You must also run 2T. The other option which I eventually went with was 2X1024 which is really sweet, and you can get some good deals on 2X1024 right now which is a bonus. Good Luck! Moulinex Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Thank you Adreno, for your reply. Y will try tomorrow mixing two pairs bh5 and TCCD to see what append, if it will be the cause of. i'm too tired today and gonna sleep now. C19 bios will not help me in this case? lowboy Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Getting 4sticks of the exact same memory to play nice is hard enough mixing chips good luck.
Moulinex Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 If first i buy a second Geil Ultra-X, it was for having the same kit as the one mounted on my motherboard. But i have read after it seem that some Geil Ultra-X series where equiped by different chip for some reason of production. But the denomination and specification is the same you can look at this link http://www.geilusa.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=72 "SKU: GLXNF5123200UP / GLXNF1GB3200DC" UP is TCCD DC is BH-5 When you buy a kit, it is not written "up" or "dc" it's like a lotery... Moulinex Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Mixing 1 x 512 mb Ultra-X pc3200 UP (TCCD) and 1 x 512 mb Ultra-X pc3200 DC (BH-5) in dual channel mode, 1T, mounted on the yellow plug WORK !!!!! i've try today it works.... Why 2x Ultra-X TCCD and 2x Ultra-X BH-5 doesn't work???? i go on with other tests see you further further: I tried the 4 x module together with relaxed timings 2.5-3-3-6 2T instead of 2-2-2-5 1T and it works. Why it is not possible to go with 2-2-2-6 1T timings with 4 module?? someone got an experience with?

Stick with your looser timings and 2T and go from there...best of luck.
suedenim Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I have 2 X 1GB sticks which will only stabily overclock in the ddr slots furthest from the CPU. If I plugged another set of 2 X 1GB sticks in, even from the same manufacturer, I wouldn't expect them to overclock at all. There are posts elsewhere here about problems with particular memory slots and dual channel memory kits never mind overclocking. I would take the earlier advice, return the new sticks, buy a new dual channel kit (2X 1GB) and sell your old sticks (eBay?). Then again they may overclock but it would be tricky and it would be interesting to hear how you got on with them and what the settings ended up at...
