O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 is it 5400,7200,10,000rpms? What cache size and what cooling, if any?
LobbDogg Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 make sure the transfer mode is set to DMA in Windows. This can be found under the Device Manager and properties of the IDE controller (I think) or under the drive itself.
Ziggy54354 Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 7200rpm, 8mb, case fan right next to it. Its in dma if available
DevilMB3017 Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 Try a better cable. Some cables only handle ATA100, which makes sense for your ~9 MB/s transfer rate. Does you're mobo support ATA133 and does your cable? Very imporant stuff.
Ziggy54354 Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 its an ata100 harddrive to begin with... so iuhno, but i should be getting around 30mb.

Ziggy54354 Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 roughly 22gb. I don't notice anything in games or anything and everything loads up fine and dandy but i also got under 500 for my hd in pcmark02 leading me to believe something is fubar. howie b Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 Hmmm...after reading this I Sandra tested my drive, and I'm having the same problems. :-( I'm only getting a score of 18.3MB/sec, and I tried all the things that were suggested to the guy who started this thread. I checked device manager....DMA 5, I tried defragging, didn't change my score, and i have the same drive as him (WD 80GB, 8MB cache) Any further suggestions? BTW, my drive is partitioned 20GB on C:, and 60GB no F:...C: is the drive I tested and got the low score on. Does it make any difference?
