PickledSheep Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 (edited) OK, if i buy a new computer im looking to buy ram. I will probably have an a7n8x mobo, so i want 2X256mb. Should i get PC 3200 or PC 2700. Is there even CL2 generic ran? The store i will buy from has generic ram. I could always order some, but then i have to wait, and i would have a brand new computer i couldnt use for a while. I dont plan on OCing it so, is generic good enough? I wanna run doom 3 too, so would it be worth getting OCZ or Kingston Hyper X? Edited September 8, 2003 by PickledSheep
DevilMB3017 Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 If you're not going to OC, then PC2700 modules are fine if you're using a 333 FSB CPU, the new 400FSB will need PC3200. For not OCing, any module should do CL2. You won't see a real world change between CL2 and CL2.5 anyways. Good luck thou!
FanATIc205 Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 get pc3200 that way you have a better upgrade path. and spend a lil extra on better ram to get lower latencys . some instances low latencys is better then overclocking a few mhz
justinal Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 go with the 2700 it sounds like thats all you need
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 Yep PC2700(333Mhz) should perform quite well...I should know B)
PickledSheep Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 The 3200 will only be like $5 dollars more a stick or something. So should i get that?
FanATIc205 Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 yess get it say down the road you upgrade to a fster cpu or mobo then you gotta go out and buy faster ram 5 bucks is worth it for a lil future proofing

DevilMB3017 Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 Yes Yea, but if its only 5 bucks more like you guys say, its only PC2700 with looser timings running at higher MHz...
PickledSheep Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 So then the 2700 would amost perform better?
FanATIc205 Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 (edited) no get the 3200 its more future proof . just increase the voltage to the ram to get lower timings .also most pc2700 is 6ns chips where the namebrand stuff is 3200chips 5 ns some even use 4.5ns chips Edited September 8, 2003 by fanATIc1205
