computerfreakxv Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 OK, I just got my new PowerColor 9700 non-PRO. Everytime I try to overclock it, (275-CORE to 285-CORE) my computer goes into a safty mode where everything is as low as it can go. After it does that it gives me this message... computerfreakxv Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 (edited) So, does this mean that I cant OC at all. There has to be some way to get by this problem?????? The only reason that I bought the 9700 non-PRO is because I new that I could OC it up to a 9700PRO. ElBarto Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 what are you using to oc it? try using a diffrent technique or program... diffrent programs do diffrent things to oc a card sometimes and maybe the one you are using is messing up the card
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 Exactly, you may want to try Powerstrip or some other known O/Cing program
computerfreakxv Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 I tryed PowerStrip and Rage3D. They both did the same thing when I went up on the core from 275-285.
bigred Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 better cooling, better powersuply maybe, different drivers, or it just may not like it
computerfreakxv Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 I have a TT Crystal Orb for cooling. I downloaded the new ATI 3.6 Drivers, and DirectX9. I have a TTGI 420 watt PowerSupply.
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 Try overclocking by increments of 5 or maybe 2(for example 270,272,274 or 270,275,280) if possible and if that doesnt work maybe your card just doesnt like to be O/Ced... video cards can be picky sometimes 333l2l2
computerfreakxv Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 I fixed my OCing problem by downloading the new Omega Driver. Man, this card can OC. Right now I have the Core at 360, and the memory at 270, (I havent started to OC the memory yet, because I want to get a good stable Oc with the core first). I checked my memory chips to find out what kind they were, and come to find out I have Samsung 2.8ns, or something. I think that they can OC to 350. Well ill post update when I finish OCing the card. Right now im getting 5200 on 3DMark2003. At default I got 4400.

computerfreakxv Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 I seem to have hit my cards max... Core - 370 Mem - 335 If I wanted to OC more could I just go into the Bio's and up the volts on my card? Would this make the card run a lot hotter? Would I need special cooling to do this?
