Badams66 Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 If i were to buy another stick of 256mb PC2100 RAM, will it speed up my folding at all?
AxcesDenyed Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 probably not, you would have to overclock the cpu more or get a new one. it doesnt use much memory. but i could be wrong.
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 Well for folding I wouldnt know but it would be nice to have 512mb of total ram rather than
Badams66 Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 Well, im probably getting another stick anyway, i was just wondering if it would make my computer fold faster! It takes like 15 mins to do a step...some other people here on slower computers like an Athlon XP 1800+ can do a step in 2 minutes  Even My friends AMD "Authentic" Athlon, compaq preserio, 126mb ram, 900MHZ does a step in 5 minutes....my computers at 1.7 GHz with double his ram.... <_<
Newb_ocer Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 May be because you have other programs running or something or other hidden applications that are taking up your Cpu time
Badams66 Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 Nope, im folding longer then my friend, and folding takes up the most cpu usage...its the only thing that uses the cpu when im away! Eitherwise it shares it with Iexplorer.exe like right now
syneze Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 Sometimes a WU takes 2 mins each step, sometimes it takes 10, even on the same comp. It just depends on the work unit.
