jk336699 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hi, is there anyone has bought a cpu cooling fan ever? For what reason? Does it worth the extra dough? for example, a 460 gtx is 140 bucks if i want to upgrade the cooler, i can buy a hm....nothing...this example is bad lets talking about the 6850 adding on a aftermarket cooler, the whole price can buy a 6870 instead So why would anyone buy aftermarket cooler for GPU? I guess the reason would be for absolute maximim performance. There aren't a whole lot of cards that really need and after market cooler but there are reasons to get one. For a GTX 460, maybe someone bought one and it is just too loud for them so they buy an silent after market cooler. For a GTX 5970, the most powerful graphics card to date. Not a whole lot of upgrade options and for a relatively low price you can get a bit more performance out of these beasts. Noise can also be a factor. Bragging rights, shiny things are cool. Men like shiny things. Shiny things attract women. Shiny things good. Bottom line is graphics cards coolers are for people who could be more happy with the cards they have already purchased but are not willing to buy a different card. If they have grab the right edition, then, they dont even need to buy aftermarket cooler but "Bottom line is graphics cards coolers are for people who could be more happy with the cards they have already purchased but are not willing to buy a different card." this is a sound reason! GabrielT Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 If they have grab the right edition, then, they dont even need to buy aftermarket cooler The thing about this is some people will buy something and expect it to be quieter or cool than it really is. I remember I bought a single slot 9600 GT awhile back and no body said anything about how loud it was. It was just the best card for $140 at the time (and is now the best card for $50) but no one cared about how loud it was. I cared. I wanted an after market cooler but XFX used a non reference cooler so I was out of luck. "Bottom line is graphics cards coolers are for people who could be more happy with the cards they have already purchased but are not willing to buy a different card." this is a sound reason! I am sure you have bought something without fully thinking out the consequences. I do it a lot. The nice thing about computers is that if you mess up a purchase you can usually fix it with a cheap tweak and everything is all better. Sound reasoning is not really my strong suit. Go me for once! PruritusAni Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 My aftermarket cooler keeps my card cooler than stock and it does so inaudibly. I'm unlikely to have a stock graphics card cooler for too long in the future.
