Sharp Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Hello, http://www.memtest.org/download/1.60/memte...1.60.floppy.zip Can you try memtest? Run it for 8hours, if you get any errors instantly stop. And in the BIOS increase the memory voltage to 2.8v. Then run Memtest again. Any errors this time, try 1 stick at a time with 2.8v. Guest mark Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 i ran it last night on both sticks. got MANY errors (at one point the bottom half of the screen was scrolling so fast i couldn't read it). i removed one stick and tried installing win2k. it got to the point where it created the list of files to copy and then seemed to stop (unless this step of the installation takes a long time). i'll try increasing the voltage tonight. is there any other info i need to post on the build or the bios setting that would be helpful? Any errors this time, try 1 stick at a time with 2.8v. i increased the dram voltage to 2.8v and ran the test on both sticks. when i got some errors on test 4, i stopped the test and removed one stick. i left the test run for five hours with the one stick. when i checked this morning it had made 25 passes with zero errors on tests 1-7 and 249 errors on test 8. is this an acceptable tolerance, or should there be zero errors? Sharp Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Hello, There should be 0 errors all the time. Stick 1 @2.8v = errors? stick 2 @2.8v = errors? If you could make a note of which stick showed errors, maybe only 1 is faulty? What power supply do you have? Bios memory settings. Maybe post a screenshot or type out all the settings? Guest mark Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 thanks for your response! i'll rerun it on the same stick tonight (stick 1) to see if i get the same errors. then i'll swap it out with the other (stick 2) and run it for a few hours. i'll copy down the bios settings and post those as well. my power supply is the 485 watt supply that came with the case. red930 Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Can you post the make & model # of the power supply you are using? If it is a 20 pin PSU, then you will want to change it out and get a native 24 pin PSU. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10854

I misread the motherboard model! My apologies! Can you still post the make & model of the PSU anyways?
Guest mark Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 ran the test again. stick 1 - test 1-7 - 0 errors, test 8 - 249 errors (tues night, 25 passes) test 1-7 - 0 erros, test 8 - 5 errors (1 pass last night) stick 2 - test 4 - 17 errors then the system stopped responding i also updated my signature to reflect my power supply and case. on start up, my computer reads in the bottom left corner 08/27/2004-nForce-CK8S-6A61CD49C-00. also, when i changed the memory sticks, i noticed there's a sticker on the stick that reads 2.6V. will setting the DRAM voltage in the BIOS at 2.6 instead of 2.8 make a difference? I brought one of the chips to work with me. I'm going to check with one of our IT guys to see if they have some hardware to test the stick. here are some of my bios setting/readings: pc health: ATX +3.3v - 3.35 ATX +5.0v - 5.02 ATX +12v - 12.22 ATX +5vsb - 5.05 Battery - 3.06 CPU temp - 41 C system temp 1 - 34 C system temp 2 - 29 C FSB Bus Frequency - 200 AGP Bus Frequency - 66 Clock spread spectrum - disabled CPU core voltage - 1.51 chip set voltage - 1.62 AGP slot voltage - 1.52 DRAM 2.5v - 2.85 AGP voltage control - 1.50 DRAM voltage control - 2.80 should i post any other settings? should i add these to my sig? thanks!!! Sharp Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Hello, Can you test these sticks on anther PC, I think they are faulty. IF the BIOS memory timings are wrong that can cause errors too. http://www.digital-daily.com/motherboard/d...rty/index04.htm (DRAM configuration) In memtest what does it should for you memory timings, 2.5-3-3-8 3-3-3-
Guest mark Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 In memtest what does it should for you memory timings,2.5-3-3-8 3-3-3-8 i don't remember off hand. i'll have to check tonight. how do those relate to the BIOS settings? what changes should i make based on the values? RGone Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 3-3-3-8 is what I found for most KVR memory at PC3200. RGone...
