A7n8x & 2500 Barton Unlocking

Recommended Posts

I have read the forums and haven't found anyone that has this combo and had this question directly answered... I could have missed something  ! I just got my Asus a7n8x deluxe ver. 2 board and Barton 2500, and would like to know if anyone has found the board to auto unlock the processor? I know there has been a bit of debate on this but i need to know so I can unlock it before I put it together, if I really need to. I read that they haven't figured out how to unlock the upper multipliers yet but have wired the lower multipliers. So, I wasn't sure if the board would unlock this processor or not. They were not specific enough for me, I guess. I also would like a link or info on the best bios settings that you have found for OC'ing this combo. A7n8x Del. v. 2, 2500 barton, Mushkin DDR 3200, asus ti4200 128mg 8x, slk 800, and enough cooling to open an airport. B)

Also I got my case, the TT Xaser II a6000a and it has a thermal prob. I was wondering if anyone has found the best location to place the prob. Besides my *ss.. One more question, should you change the sata jumper to disable if your not using it. The manual doesn't say. I think they could have done better on the manual, you think? Nice board! This is going to rock. :D I have never seen so many options on a board before ;) . A guy could get lost  .

Thanks for any info...

I have an Abit KD7 w/ a Barton 2500 and I have it overclocked to 2.02 Ghz with bus speed 168 and multiplier at 12.0 with a Vantect Tornado and a normal heatsink on it at a temperature of 59C.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the A7N8X-DLX, this mobo is just fab. It auto unlocks your FSB, to get higher and/or super lower multipliers (depends on chip and yada yada) you will have to unlock it. BUT if you just wanna tinker with the FSB and stuff, no prob.

I currently got a LOCKED 1700+ JIUHB and threw it into the a7n8x-dlx and BOOM, i got it to post @ 185 FSB, better ram and i bet I can tweak it just a tad more out of it.

The best place to place the prove is RIGHT NEXT to the DIODE or under the socket, thats why the wiring on the probe is very thin, I've built several computers @ work with the Xaser case. It's a pain in the butt coz it has like 5 million wires.

Ohh, and for the SATA thingy, no you dont have to disable it, but I did. I don't have any logic behind it, I just did. Any more questions?

Actualy since you asked, yes  If you are using ddr 400 like Mushkin do you need to oc the fsb to get to use all of the ddr 400:unsure: ? I have heard that the new ver. 2 boards will reconize the ddr 400, but I don't know if it will auto set the right speed for the ram or use 333! What unlocking kit would you use for the Barton 2500. I know I will ask many questions so shoot out anything.. I feel stup! The funny thing is I have built mother boards for every computer company in the world, but I don't get to use them...

Any links to forums that have bios settings for optimum settings? Also if the prob is put under the socket is there a chance of short. Can you explain better.. Sorry had to ask!! The socket doesn't give much room for prob. I don't like the idea of the diode because I'm not sure if it would give the best reading. One more question and I think I will have it. The Asus support voice error on boot, do you need to have a seperate speaker (internal) to hear the message or just having speakers hooked up ok? Stupid question right....

Thanks.... :P

I know. You have a T-bred and I have a Barton that is what the prob is. I need to find someone that has a Baton and a7n8x ver. 2 eugenius says you need to unlock the Barton. And see this is the *hit I have read throughout the forums, back and forth. No affence eugenius. I get the idea the board is picky... So maybe it does and maybe it doesn't unlock the Barton. I guess I will just find out when I install it. I was hoping not to do two installs of the processor is all. I plane on oc'ing the hell out of this! I know how to oc it's just the board has so many settings it's, awsome! I hope other manufactorers fallow Asus.. Kick *ss example..! ;)

Hay on a note, do you think that some day the bios will link to the os ase an interface. That would allow you to change things (hardware settings) on the fly without having to reboot and enter bios mode to do it? Think about it.. would that be rad or what? I think it will someday soon be possible... Yes it is in some 3rd party programs but not native OS, you know what I mean..

too many boards and chipsets for it to be part of the OS... plus think of the liability... whos fault is it when everything is fried and who will support it???

A couple board companies already have the software...gigabyte for one, and they work pretty well..

Yea Gigabyte has a program that will let you up the fsb and change the multipliers, but it is still 3rd party software. I'm talking about having complete control over the bios from within Windows directly without needing anyother software. That would rock! You would still have to reboot for some changes but it would still take less time, and you would be able to monitor the system easier from Windows.

I still have had no answers to my forum questions. Can anyone help!!

  • 1 month later...

in a GigaByte ga-7vax i can get 2.3 ghz out of this cpu. since the a7n8x is supposed to be better i'd assume it would be willing to do more with correct cooling as you say. good luck bro ;)

i'm a dumbass

What are you talking about... lots and lots of people have the Barton 2500 and the A7n8x Deluxe... it is one of the most common set-ups out there right now. The whole reason I ordered it was because I've seen several people in THIS forum, and several people in lots of other forums as well, raving about this setup. It might be the best AMD combo out there now (I don't have any comparisons to back that up with as this is my first overclock, but if other reviews are any indication... it's a wonderful combo).
