SnaRf Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Ok. Hey all, I'm new Well, no point in waffling, so straight to the point. I am running a Barton 2500+ Mobile in my machine, and I cannot get the bastard stabe at over 200 FSB. Can anyone give me some pointers? Thanx (I hope the details in the sig is enough)
Guest Zatoichi Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Think the standard AMD fan is your problem. You should try and find a beter heatsink and fan, I think that will help alot.
SnaRf Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Djeez. The Standard heatsink & fan keeps the CPU/Socket at under 40 degrees when I am running at 200FSB. Guess I'll just have to re-install my waterchill
SnaRf Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Damn, this is just weird... I've been running: 200FSB x 10 with Vcore @ 1.45, and 1:1 fsb:ram Now, I figured, OK, let's drop down to a 5:4 ratio at 205FSB. Great, I get the rig booted, and I start running prime95. About 10 minutes in the whole machine locks up. OK, I reboot and...... Nothing.... 2 seconds later I get the pc speaker sounding like a fire-truck... "bee-boo" "bee-boo" eh? WTF? Mevunky Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Do a long bios clear. refer here Here is the 'official' DFI way of clearing the CMOS: every time you flash to a new bios, it is very important to clear the old BIOS settings out this way: 1. pull power 2. pull battery 3. clear cmos jumper for minimum of 30-60 seconds 4. replace cmos jumper to normal position 5. replace battery 6. replace power 7. boot to bios and load optimized defaults 8. save and exit 9. boot back to bios and now you can change settings to your liking. always remember that alpha and beta bioses are to be used at your own risk. they are not official BIOSes for a reason. there are lots of other things it can be. but this may be ure best friend. SnaRf Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 OK. Done that now. (Although, I did it the previous time as well.) Running Prime95: [email protected] Let's see what happens. No point in testing 205 is 200 won't work eh?
Psykoikonov Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Give that poor CPU some volts!!! Your starving it LOL. Most of us run ours @ 1.75V->1.85V on air depending on your cooler (try to stay under 50C). Also I've never heard of your RAM but it may not allow you to get much past 200MHz. Try giving it some volts (upto 2.9V won't hurt it). Post your Power supply to please as these babies get power hungry as you step them up . You should be able to get to 2.3GHz with even the stock cooler (200x11.5). Psyko
SnaRf Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 I need to take the case apart to get to the PSU sticker, but I'll do that tonight. I know it's an aopen 300W though (OI! that might be the whole blerrie problem) Anyways. What's better, higher FSB or higher multi? I'm also running a Barton-M processor, which (in theory) doesn't need as much volts.... But let's see ;P
Psykoikonov Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Higher fsb is better...you should still be able to get to 2.3GHz regardless of fsb. I said 200MHz fsb to make sure your RAM would be ok with it. That 300W PSU will be working Overtime though. Your CPU doesn't need much volts...if you stay at default speed...to overclock you'll need more volts to stabilize at the higher speeds. You definetly won't make 2.3GHz on 1.45volts. My Athlon Mobility 2500+ is @ 1.85volts read and 250x10=2.5GHz full load 45C on air (not stock cooling though). Psyko
SnaRf Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Running Vcore @ 1.55v & Vdim @ 2.8v now. 200 X 10.5 (baby steps) edit: Forgot to mention: 50 degrees @ full load. Time for a new fan.. Although, it's a crapload more stable than it was. (I have tried 200x10.5 before, and it's a lot happier now) Next step: 200 X 11.... Psyko: I can't see your sig?... Psykoikonov Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 just noticed edit: Forgot to mention: 50 degrees @ full load. will probably need to be colder than that to get much higher, can try 200x11=2200 but I'm not sure if 1.55V will be enough and a jump in speed and volts means more heat. make sure to prime as you go and baby steps are good if ya got the time and don't have an image of winblows .
