Mercury Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 ive been noticing a lot lately that people have been trying to give advice to others based on a few slivers on information they must have heard somewhere... seriously, people, if you dont know what youre talking about, dont try to act like you do because youre likely to screw up someones computer. if you dont know something, dont post, or feel free to state the fact... its not like we all know EVERYTHING, so dont worry about not knowing an answer... many ppl come here for help, and trying to help them without proper know-how will only make the problem worse <_<
justinal Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 i try not to say anything if i havent already experienced it for my self.
andrusk Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 thats my philosophy, i avoid any post topic that i havent actually had some experience with myself. If you do that it wont make you look stupid to the people who know what theyre talking about, oh yeah, and no one will think your stupid. hiph0pan0nym0usx Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 it has always happened, and i dont expect it to stop. some people just get confused. almost all of my computer knowledge is based off of what i have heard. there is no way i would be able to know if someone passed on false information. all you need to do is tell that persont hey are mistaken and correct them, i dont see the point of making a huge deal of it. Mercury Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 which usually escalates into them getting pissed off because they didnt check their facts in the first place. i dont care if you got some bad information, just dont pass on information unless you got it from the only 100% safe source, experiance. even then, stupid people might be confused as to what actually happened during their experiance, and therefore, have errors in their "expertise". unless you can argue comprehensively with a (bonified) expert on the subject, dont try to give info about it to others <_<
andrusk Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 (edited) you should follow some of your own advice mercury And the only safe source is the dircet source. in between is all just opinion and situation based fact. sVperbeast2k5 Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 And the only safe source is the dircet source. in between is all just opinion and situation based fact. What counts as a direct source? And isn't a "situation-based fact" known as a result? A reproducable result should be the basis of all knowledge and information worthy of being passed on. Theory and opinion are useful for exploring new areas, but what you can actually accomplish is what matters.
