SwayNet Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Ok, my motherboard just died. Like, absolutely died and I cannot find a single place in this country where I can buy a replacement for it. I have 2 hard drives in a RAID-0 array, (stupid of me for doing so and not backing stuff up) I have very valuable files on there that I need. My question is, can I get a new motherboard and transfer my RAID hard drives over to it without reformatting them? If I have not made this post clear enough, please say so. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
Rehit Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 i have moved a raid0 array from one box to another and didn't lose anything. as soon as installed the raid driver, windows saw the drives and the contents.

neddamttocs Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 what i would try is getting the new mobo and see if it can transfer without having to do anyhting ... if it works great ..... if not you would have to try a repair install of windows xp to get the proper drivers for the mobo ... if that doesnt work ... hopefully someone else has some ideas beyond mine
Bleeble Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Different mobos/controllers implement RAID in different ways. RAID-0 on one computer could be vastly different from RAID-0 on another computer. Find out what RAID controller your mobo uses and try to find something that's the same.
SwayNet Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Thanks. I will try my luck with a new motherboard, and if I lose the stuff I will be pissed off for about a week and then be over with it.
SwayNet Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Update: I got a new motherboard (Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe) and used Runtime's RAID Reconstructor to rebuild the RAID array (http://www.runtime.org/raid.htm) and it worked flawlessly. Backing up my files now. Thank you all for your input, it was greatly appreciated.
