how much does cache amout effect performance. like we will soon go from the 800 series to 900 and i noticed the cache is doubling again.

lets say we have a D 820 processor with 1 mb cache for each processor. if the cache was to be doubled and nothing else changed, how much more performance would you get?

I don't hink there would be enough of an improvemwnt to warrent upgrading, if that's what you're asking. However, the amount of performance increase would probably depend on how much the latencies went up as well. The cache is kinda like RAM - the lower the amount, the lower the timings (or latencies).

It depends on what applications you are using. For gaming, it might not make a big difference, espically with high-CPU speed. However, more cache is good for video/audio editing, and with lower-CPU speeds, such as laptops.
