r_g Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 (edited) why not get the dfi nf4 board, and or a x800xl? also dont venice cores have SSE3? Edited May 5, 2005 by r_g
Kash Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Also, why didn't you get the Thermalright XP-90? I'm pretty sure it would beat anything offered by Thermaltake that isn't the size of a 2 story building. Edit: Yes, I'm pretty sure Venice cores have SSE3. At least, that's what all the review sites said.
Puck Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I also recommend another board, preferably the dfi, and the x800xl will be a better buy. An xp-90 will also cool better then that thermaltake, which is a good hs but not great for ocing - and its price dropped since the 90c came out(or you can grab the xp-90c-it is supposed to cool as good as a xp-120) I know you'll enjoy your a64 - these things are fun to oc . Overclockersdream Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 (edited) In response to some posts.... I went with ABIT because for some reason, thier boards score better out of the box, then most boards. Venus 12, because I know we all remember the Volcano 12 and that was a hell of a heatsink. x800pro because it has plenty of possibilities since it uses the same r420 core as an x800 xt. another thing that took part of my decision was $$$. it be nice to get the xp120! but xp120 plus fan was like 80 something dollars. the thermaltake was 37.00! x800xl was $120 dollars more! my only concern right now is if that x800 pro can be flashed without any difficult to XT speeds?? anyone know about this? And also should i lap my thermaltake Venus? Lapping thanks again OCC Edited May 6, 2005 by Overclockersdream
DECwakeboarder Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 I don't know where you're looking, but I thought the x800xl's were around $300. Plus my XP-120 w/ fan was about $55.

Kash Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Heatsink Factory has it for $47.99 FrozenCPU has it for $49.99. Shop around for 120mm fans, you can find good ones for less than $20. So add a $15 fan with arguably the best HSF for $50, and you're still looking at less than the $80 you quoted before. I just found these with 2 minutes of research. I'm sure you can find much better prices if you shop around a bit. Newegg has some nice X800XLs for less than $300. Kash Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 OEM versions come with everything the Retail versions come with, except for maybe a game or two (oh, and the pretty box). They have the warranty and perform exactly the same. I bought an OEM 9800Pro a while back (the Retail version was around 40 or 50 more) and I haven't regretted my decision (well, I was upset when I got the R350 instead of the R360, but that has nothing to do with the fact the card was OEM, just luck of the draw). What problems have you had with OEM cards? I'm sure it can't be anything that isn't easily solved.
