bigred Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 it's cpu-Z's doings. stupid thing didn't know what the 939 Fx's were. nwo it calls em all clawhammers
oralpain Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 Regardless of what CPU-Z says, everything suggests that the 939 pin FXes are clawhammers, not sledgehammers. If you have a reliable source that says otherwise, please share.
Wayway Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 so which one is better for benchmarking , playing games and overclocking? the newcastle or the clawhammer Because I have the AMD 64 3200 Newcastle @ 2.4 with stock cooling and it it seems more than enough for what im doing. Because I was thinking about getting the 3400 next week but there is no difference between them from what ive read.
worker Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 Because I was thinking about getting the 3400 next week but there is no difference between them from what ive read. The +3200 goes 2.2GHZ and +3400 goes 2.4GHZ.
Wayway Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 wow you can overclock 200 mhz either way
Coolzero101 Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 I wonder what a 300 mgz overclock on a 2.2 3200+ would make it equivilent to....
Nerm Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 wow you can overclock 200 mhz either way he mean't they run stock at those speeds well they do if you get the Newcastle cores. The 3400+ will also OC to much higher speeds than the 3200 one reason being it already had a 200mhz head start, but I have one of these chips and they are just great OCers. EDIT: Coolzero a 2.2 3200 OCed 300mhz would make it equivilent to a 3400 with a 100mhz OC.
oralpain Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Most of the CG newcastles top out around 2.5-2.6GHz on air regardless of wether theya re 2800+s or 3400+s. The chips clocked higher by default have a slight edge, but its not much. Luck of the draw matters more.

Paranoid Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 wrong my out of the box stock is @ 2.2 Depends if it's a ClawHammer or NewCastle, and also which socket it uses.
