BiPolar Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Well, i've searched the forums and still can't make up my mind. I thought I was going to go seagate for my new SATA HD (thinking of getting a 120gb), with plans later to purchase a second and set up RAID 0. I'm leaning towards the Hitachi, but my case temps kinda suck and I think i'd rather have a cooler drive. Are the Hitachi's really that much hotter? Should I go with another brand? Suggestions? AkApUrViS Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 well any harddrive will get hot just put in the slot with the fan can blow on it. The only different between the name brand is the warranty im hope im right, but most people buy western digital and maxtor
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I prefer Western Digital or Hitachi; 10k RPM drives are hotter than current 7200 RPM drives. If you purchase a 10k RPM HD make sure you have at least one free bay above and below it.
BiPolar Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 nah, no 10k, they are a bit out of my price range. I"m leaning towards the hitachi's, either 1x120 for now, or 2x80.
oralpain Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I like IBM/Hitachi deskstars. Never had any problems with them and they have always been fast and quiet. They did botch the 75GXP drives, but I never had any of those. My 5 year old 35GXPs in my k6-2 450 still run fine and all the other deskstars I've bought sisnce have been just as problem free. BiPolar Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 decided on the 2x80 hitachi, got 'em from zipzoomfly for 66 each.
crash Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 They don't call 'em deathstars for nothing
BiPolar Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 from what i've read, the drive's have really turned around their quality control. Fast, reasonably quiet, and well-priced. Everyone has something bad to say about each company. It just looks like hitachi is on its way up and that they produce quality drives now. What happened in the past, i hope stays in the past. However, do people think that Hitachi drives are no good NOW?
