spathalogic Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Another one of my crazy polls. Oh and we have guards standing by with AK47s favoring retail drivers. You have been warned. Enjoy the democratic polls! Personally; I go with the retail drivers because of my lack of knowledge of drivers
r_target Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I usually stick with Catalyst for my ATi.
hardnrg Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 what are retail drivers?????????? i think there are 3 classes of drivers personally: 1) chipset manufacturer's drivers (e.g. NVidia, ATi, SiS, Intel, etc, etc) 2) company "oem" drivers (e.g. ABIT, Asus, MSI, Albatron, DFI, etc) 3) independent drivers (e.g. kX project, Omega, DNA, etc) usually i'd pick 1/2 for mobo, 2/3 for soundcard, 3 for graphics that's just my interpretation... spathalogic Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 (edited) Retail drivers are the drivers that are made by the manufacturer of the item. Third party are any other "independent" drivers made by people who did not manufacture the item/ aren't related to the "retail" company. GTSticky Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Omegadrivers.net > all for Video For generic things like Network cards, I go with the latest WHQL certified driver that Microsoft offers. For Sound, Chipset, etc.. I go straight to the manufacturer (Creative Labs, MSI, ASUS) and get the latest.
cGrUnDy Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 even for "powered by ati" cards I choose the catalyst drivers wich are supposed to be only for "built by ati" cards. But I'm going to give those independent drivers a try one of these days. maybe next month when I'll be reinstalling my whole system.
