upok Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 (edited) okay, been awhile since i posted in this part of occ. good to be oc'ing again. although i'm not a noob, this is probably a fairly simple question. i have a week 14 barton 2500, so it's unlocked(yeah!). i can run it like a 3200, 200x11, like any good barton. that works out to 2.2ghz. right now i'm running at 220x10. same clock speed higher fsb. i realize that this is preferable if everything stays stable. but what about when your overall clock speed goes down, but fsb goes up? example: i was running at 210x10. so which is better, 210x10 or 200x11. higher clock in the second, but lower fsb. this is all really moot for me, since i did get it up to 220, but if i hadn't, would i have been better off with the lower fsb and higher clock, or higher fsb and lower clock? thanks btw: 220x10 on stock vcore and vdimm. jammin Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 Its a bit tougher to say if they are close like that and the actual clock speed is effected.. get your benching programs out, think thats the only way to be sure.
upok Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 well, so far the benches (sandra) are showing that the memory scores go up with the fsb. i just wondered because, since i have an unlocked cpu, i know i can hit higher clocks with the multi instead of the fsb. i suppose i'll ljust have to test it all ways and see. DECwakeboarder Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 The only change that I have noticed is a boost in mem scores when OC with a higher FSB, you really want to try to get the highest FSB possible so that your whole system will be boosted instead of jsut the CPU
Agallion Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 if its really close like that..good ol 3dmark01 will help
EvilWizard Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 Reading this post got me playing around more with my 2500 barton. I have it at a stable 210.5 X 11 @2.315 on air. Boost your fsb. Much better results. Keep up with vcore and and don't forget to monitor your temps.
