I have mixed them up before, and no damage just wouldn't work. Had the reset buton switched with the power button... push power and nothing  push reset button and powers up  I'm not quite sure what you mean about the PSU ? if you mean that your PSU doesn't have a 3pin(fan) connector then dont worry, if it does have one... connect it to one of the fan busses on the motherboard.

Oh I think I know what you mean, the power supply will not have a lead to connects to your case panel.

The way that it works is all done on the motherboard, first the power enters the board from the big 20pin wide connector(and 4pin square connector for Intel P4's) then your front panel of the case connects to the motherboard by the lead you mentioned above(ATX POWER SWITCH ), then when you push the front panel power switch on the case, it opens up the power channel on the motyherboard and presto...it comes to life

Does that answer your concerns ?

Good luck and don't rush yourself. Be very sure to connect the 3pin fan wire from your power supply to the motherboard connector marked" power fan".

What Does That Do? :O

That 3pin fan wire is for the fan in the power supply, the motherboard can control the speed when it has to.(increase when hot/decrease when cool)

Just to reiterate...
