Budget Builder Overclocking First Timer

Hey Everyone,

 

As the title suggests..... I'm just about to invest in my first PC build, I've been researching like a trooper for this and am almost close to buying what I need. But I'm still left with a couple of questions that I hope everyone can help me with.

 

So like I said I'm going for a budget build. I will be using the machine to emulate old gaming systems and do 1080 gaming of newer PC titles. My CPU is of course going to be the G3258, for it's amazing price and overclockability With that and budget in mind my choice for motherboard was the H81 like - MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 at

I can answer #3 quick and easy.  Although the manufacturers of boards and cpu's don't officially support the faster sticks, they will still often work if they are just slightly faster, and if you're overclocking the system.  I see that here in the USA the prices are the same for 1333 or 1600 and worse case scenario, the 1600 can be downclocked if needed.  So get the 1600.

Edit: also, it doesn't matter much.  Either way, you'd be lucky to see any results in a benchmark

You will be fine booting into your BIOS with both motherboards, G3258 chip,.. just follow your motherboards manual for BIOS flashing if needed.

 

On the Asus board if your BIOS version number is less-than 2001 you will need to flash,.. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/H81ME/HelpDesk_CPU/

 

On the MSI board if your BIOS version number is less-than 1.9 you will need to flash,.. https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H81M-P33.html#down-bios

Thanks Fight Game. I was thinking it would be something like that, but just wanted to double check I wasn't missing something And here in the UK the 1600's are slightly cheaper as well anyway.
